About BES
Brookside Elementary School is one of two schools in Milford that serves students in Grades K through 2. Housing approximately 560 students and 120 professional and support staff, Brookside is a welcoming, warm and caring community.
Brookside offers a comprehensive elementary education, focusing on the foundational skills that target the K-2 standards. All students receive instruction in core subjects: Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies/History. Students in grades one & two receive Physical Education and Music twice a week, Art and Media once a week and STEM in cycles throughout the year. Kinders receive Physical Education and Music twice a week, and Media and STEM once a week. Social emotional skills are integrated throughout the day in all classes, recess and lunch. Brookside has eleven Kindergarten classrooms, ten grade one classrooms, ten grade two classrooms, three Milestones Classrooms (substantially separate classrooms for students on the autism spectrum) and one Therapeutic Classroom (substantially separate classroom for students with social/emotional challenges).
Additional educational opportunities are offered to students gaining proficiency in English through our English Language Development program. Special Education services are offered to students that qualify for those supports if they have been identified as having a disability. Counseling services are offered through our regular education and Special Education programs for students needing support with social-emotional skills. Finally, additional academic support is offered for students needing interventions in Reading.
